TYRONE Prades' Prestige Bodyworks remain one point clear of the chasing pack at the top of the Division One table.

Their latest success a 2-0 win at home to Corsham CC Wildcats saw the Chippenham based side claim their seventh win of the season.

The Wildcats, who had already suffered three defeats at the hands of Prestige this term, will be glad to see the back of their opponents after their latest loss which saw first-half goals from Adam O’Keeffe and Stuart Field gave Prades side victory in a game that could have proved to be a potential banana skin to their title hopes.

AFTER three successive defeats which have seen Danny Powell’s Bromham surrender top spot in the table, the villagers avoided a fourth straight loss at Goatacre CC FC who, with a two goal lead at the break, must have thought that win number five of the season was a formality.

But thanks to super sub, Freddie Paget, Bromham turned things around in the second half to run out 3-2 winners.

Goals from Darren Holcombe and Dave Herring put Goatacre in charge of things at half time. Chris Burgess reduced the arrears for Bromham with a stunning 40 yard free kick but the introduction of Paget, 25 minutes from time swung the game in favour of Bromham.

Firstly, Paget got Bromham back on level terms and then the prolific striker conjured up the winner when he bagged his 13th goal of the season which in this instance proved unlucky for the cricketers’.

White Horse A 5 Chippenham West End 2

DESPITE just the solitary point from their first eight league games, Chippenham West End rocked up at Leighton Sports Centre in bullish spirits determined to rack up a first win of the campaign against a White Horse A side that have themselves struggled to find the form of last season.

However, despite their workmanlike approach it was a case of ‘same old story’ for the Chippenham side as they succumbed to a sixth straight league defeat, finishing with ten men and a distant second best to a superior Westbury side that, with a 5-2 win, are beginning to show signs of the swagger that they possessed last term.

Even with their industrious approach, the visitors found themselves 3-0 down at the break, and with it the game was all but lost.

They held on for 20 minutes, but finally cracked as the Horse produced the first moment of real quality, Jordan Gullis drawing two men in before teeing it up for Marek Miszta to cross for the unmarked Tom Oakley, whose sweetly-struck volley from 12 yards out gave West End keeper Ciaran Lyon no chance as it nestled in the top corner.

With confidence levels suitably adjusted, the Horse went in search of more as the visitors retreated into their shells, and five minutes later Lyon was picking the ball out of his net once more, Dale Rowland hanging it up at the far post for Tom Crawford to nod home with ease.

At the other end chances were scarce, as the West End front line of Mike Burne and Steve Coleman struggled to beat the offside trap and, with the pattern of the game now set, the decisive goal came five minutes before the break, Paul Beavers driving through from midfield before laying it off to Crawford who returned the earlier favour for Rowland, the winger finishing with aplomb.

Beavers and Rowland combined to devastating effect again ten minutes into the second period to make it 4-0, the latter bagging his second of the game, but the Horse were pegged back within two minutes, substitute Nathan Quarrell bundling home a Coleman freekick to give his side renewed, albeit unlikely, hope.

The four-goal cushion was restored at the midway point in the half, as Beavers and Pete Ayton combined to set up Crawford for his second of the morning and with it West End frustrations began to surface.

With ten minutes remaining, an umpteenth offside flag that had denied Coleman was the final straw for the youngster, as he embarked on a volley of expletives and indecencies at all surrounding him, giving referee Adam Pothecary no alternative but to give him his marching orders.

Strangely, the reduction in personnel seem to have a positive effect and the visitors grabbed a late consolation goal through the energetic David Byatt, to make it a respectable 5-2, despite being largely outplayed.

The result means West End will be bottom of the pile at Christmas, whilst the Horse find themselves looking upwards and, with Chairman Dave Clarkson embarking on another scouting mission, wondering whether another title charge is still within them.
