CONIGRE boss Darren Perrin revealed that red-hot striker Gary Higdon turned down a move to Toolstation Premier Division leaders Larkhall, prior to whacking Winterbourne.

Higdon, who netted a hat-trick as Melksham Town beat Longwell Green Sports 3-1 on Saturday, was the subject of a seven-day approach from the Bath side that evening.

He spoke to Larks’ former Melksham boss Wayne Thorne on Sunday but, having restated his commitment to Town, then blasted four in Monday’s thumping win over United.

Matt Cooper, Dan Kovacs and Leigh Rogers also netted as Melksham went ninth in the table.

Boss Perrin said: “Everybody at the club is delighted that Gary chose to stay with us.

“He’s a Melksham lad and we gave him the opportunity to speak to Larkhall because they are top of the league.

“But I think he sees the bigger picture for our club.’’ Perrin is facing a potential selection headache this weekend after the demands of the two games in three days took their toll on his squad.

Matt Sharp will be unavailable for the trip to Odd Down in Bath, while Tom Robinson suffered soft tissue damage to his foot and is also a doubt.

Josh Robinson has an ankle problem, while striker Higdon has work commitments which will rule him out.

Perrin was waiting to see the progress of Shaun Benison (hamstring) and Stuart Greener (dead leg), and added: It’s quite a worrying situation.

“But our reserve team have been going very well this season and I wouldn’t hesitate to play any of those lads if we needed to.’’

Derek Graham admitted the first Toolstation League First Division point earned since the appointment of him and Andy Crabtree at Weymouth Street came with a tinge of frustration.

Louis Sparey scored twice for Warminster Town, who led 2-0 at the break before Wellington roared back to claim a draw on Saturday.

Graham said: “We played really well and Sparo was on fire really.

“We scored two and could have had four or five in the first half but, to be fair, in the second half they came at us a bit more.

“Both of their goals came from free kicks, which was annoying, but what was satisfying was that our goals came from open play and we still created chances in the second half.’’

Warminster have signed on Army midfielder Paddy Carrick.

Bradford Town had to come from behind to maintain their seemingly unstoppable march towards the First Division title – but that suited manager Paul Shanley just fine.

The visitors, the only side to take points off Shanley's men following a draw in Devon earlier this season, took the lead through Billy Tucker.

But goal machine Sam Jordan struck in the dying moments of the first half and then added another in the second period to make it 18 wins from 19 matches for Town.

Shanley said: “The first half performance was as poor as we’ve been this season, but credit to the players, they got themselves back into it.

“I’m pleased with the way we responded to going a goal down early on.

“So far this season it’s nearly always been comfortable and we’ve got a few goals ahead, but the players had to show a bit of character to get themselves out of a hole.

“We drew 2-2 down in Barnstaple earlier in the season and they’re one of our closest rivals so I was pleased we got the win here to move further away from them.’’

Trevor Rawlings admits Calne Town’s seven-day approach for top scorer Jamal Chevolleau is frustrating him.

Corsham Town returned to winning ways as Matty Jenkins fired home the winner – only to later be sent off – against Glass at the Southbank.

However, the resources available to Rawlings look certain to be stretched further with the departure of frontman Chevolleau to their local rivals.

The manager said: “I’ve got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this one because it’s very frustrating but there’s nothing we can do about it.

“You don’t mind players going on to a better side, or even a higher division, but Jamal told me he’s basically been made an offer that he can’t refuse.

“Calne are offering money which is something we just cannot do so that’s frustrating.’’

Rawlings reflected on a welcome win for his patched-up side, which again featured goalkeeper Ant Brown playing in the centre of defence.

He said: “In our last couple of games we actually haven’t played that badly, but didn’t get anything out of them.

“In this one we didn’t play as well as we have done, but this time we got the points.’’

Trowbridge Town ended a run of two consecutive home defeats as they defeated Corsham Town Reserves in the Wiltshire League Premier Division on Saturday.

Pete Spong’s winner, eight minutes from time, wrapped up the points for the Bees, who trailed 1-0 at half-time.

Tarick Yachou and Sean Brereton also netted for the home side, who are fourth in the table.

Boss Mike Alford said: “"We had come under some criticism of late about our performances, but the lads cannot be faulted for the spirit they showed.

“We battled for every ball and fully deserved our win.

“I am sure some people forget just how young this side is.’’
