WORTON & Cheverell claimed the result of the day in the league.

Their 3-1 success over Division Three high-flyers Sportzcoach Dragonz United’s not only brought an end to Dragonz 100 per cent start to the season, but it also saw them avenge their 10-0 mauling from two weeks ago.

As with the reverse fixture last season, Worton switched tactics and it paid off against a highly competitive Sportzcoach wanting to maximum points for an eighth straight game.

It was not to be and when Ben Strange put the home team ahead the confidence grew within the Worton side.

A penalty just before half time would have seen the teams go in even, however man of the match Tom North pulled off a great save to deny Dan Moore.

All in all North saved two penalties as Sportzcoach failed three times from the spot, his second stop saw him deny Rob Brown before Tom Smith fired his effort from 12 yards over the bar and then when Worton had a penalty of their own North stepped up and slotted home to make it 2-1 home team after Moore had atoned for his first half miss by making it 1-1.

With Sportzcoach pushing hard to get back on an even keel a breakaway by Kyle Davies saw him go one-on-one with the keeper and keep a cool head to seal the game with Worton’s third of the game.

Christian Malford 4 FC North Wiltshire 3

CHRISTIAN Malford survived a late comeback to record a 4-3 win over bottom team FC North Wiltshire at their Kington Langley home for their fourth consecutive victory.

Pre-match favourites Malford dominated the early play but North Wilts were clearly upset at how the first goal was scored.

After 10 minutes Malford striker Paul Knight was brought down on the edge of the area. Alex Warburton gave a quick pass to Stephen Lynch who thumped the ball home from inside the area.

North Wilts protested that the referee had not indicated the kick could be taken quickly but the goal stood giving Malford a 1-0 lead.

Malford continued to dominate having numerous corners but could not convert pressure into goals. North Wilts captain and keeper James Whitehead was keeping his side in the game making several last ditch saves often with his body.

After 42 minutes Malford extended their lead when after some nice interplay between Alex Warburton and Scott Evans, Paul Knight was given an open goal to score and extend the lead to 2-0.

Malford again dominated the start of the second half and after 51 minutes Alex Warburton put in Scott Evans who made no mistake from close range to give Malford a 3-0.

This was to be midfielder Warburton’s last contribution as he left with a groin strain. After 57 minutes Malford were awarded a controversial penalty when Paul Knight went down in the penalty area.

The North Wilts defender protesting he had won the ball fairly. Scott Evans as in the previous week made no error with the penalty with a superb strike for his second goal to give Malford a comfortable 4-0 lead.

North Wilts gradually began to come back into the game and after 61 minutes forced a corner on the right.

Although the Malford keeper Matt Hutchins cleared the initial corner with a strong punch the defence allowed the ball to come back into the area and from the resultant scramble North Wilts’ James Bamford forced the ball home to reduce Malford’s lead to 4-1.

Two minutes later another scramble after a corner allowed Dan Deacon to score with a shot from inside the penalty area to bring the score back to 4-2.

The confidence Malford had played with in the first 60 minutes was rapidly evaporating as North Wilts pressed forward looking for more goals.

Malford however held out until the 83rd minute when North Wilts were awarded a free kick 30 yards out from the Malford goal. North Wilts, James Bamford rose to head home the free kick and bring the lead down to 4-3.

Although North Wilts pressed, Malford seemed to realise the trouble they could be in and played out the game to record a 4-3 win despite the North Wilts fight back. This was Malford’s first consecutive four game win since the 2004-05 season. The game was played in an excellent spirit with referee Martin Chown having a good game.

Melksham Cosmos 2 North Star B 2

MELKSHAM Cosmos bounced back from last week's first loss of the season but their 2-2 draw at home to North Star B wasn’t the result they would have wanted, but with closest rivals Sportzcoach suffering a shock defeat it keeps them in the number one spot for another week at least.

Jack Taylor as so many time this season struck to put North Star in front, and although they led 1-0 at the break two goals from Alex Shaftoe put Cosmos 2-1 up before Mike McKellar scored late on to earn the Star a share of the points.

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 4 Old Road FC 2

AFTER beating leaders Melksham Cosmos last weekend it was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for Old Road FC who were beaten 4-2 by Trowbridge Town Supporters Club with all the goals coming in an entertaining second half.

After two closely-fought matches between the teams last term, the supporters’ club were looking to get the better of there visitors this season.

A tight half in which the hosts went close through Stuart Little and Dean Coles both hitting the woodwork. Old Road also had a couple of chances but were kept at bay by Town keeper Robbie Newtown and some last ditch challenges, meaning the sides went in 0-0 at half time.

The supporters’ club started the second half on the front foot and a well worked goal involving Ashley Rendall and Coles who lashed a cross into the box for Antony Pullen to smash in his first goal of the season, shortly afterwards Dean Coles got his first of the day to make it 2-0.

The home side were in control at this point before Old Road made a couple of changes and got a goal back through Dean Archer, only for Town to hit back again through Coles giving Old Road’s defence a torrid time.

To Old Road’s credit they came back again via a Emilio Mudrak’s deflected effort inside the last 10 minutes but Dean Coles made sure the comeback was halted by grabbing his hat-trick making it 4-2.

What was a good hard fought game was well refereed by Maurice Chilcott a late replacement without whom, the game would not have taken place.

Wren FC 2 Crossblades FC 3

A 3-2 LOSS for Wren FC at home to Crossblades was their fourth defeat on the spin and it also denied them a league double over their guests who they had beaten 4-1 earlier in the season.

For Tim Chilton’s side it was their first win in three as Calne continues to be a happy hunting place for the Blades.

Sam Thompson gave Crossblades the lead which was wiped out by Kadir Ayhan, Carl Jacobi reclaim the lead for the blades before a second from Ayhan leveled things up for a second time.

A second from Jacobi won all points for Crossblades in a match that referee Neil Hickton had a fantastic game in the middle.
