A 3-2 WIN for Prestige Bodyworks at home to North Star A saw Zac Klukowski’s side pick up their first win in three games and with other results going their way the Chippenham-based side find themselves top of the Division One table.
Ryan Nicholls, on his debut, put Prestige ahead and his dream start continued as he grabbed a second to give his team a 2-0 half-time lead however he blotted his copybook when he missed a penalty as he went in search of the match ball.
The second half saw North Star raise their game and the were given a lifeline when Mark Dolman reduced the arrears.
Prestige were awarded their second penalty of the morning and with Nicholls relieved of his spot kick taking duties, Rob Finnamore stepped up as he showed him how the job should be done as he netted to make it 3-1.
North Star never gave up and a late goal from Paul Green set up a nervy finish to the game for Prestige but Klukowski’s side were able to see out the remainder of the game to claim their sixth success in nine outings.
Corsham CC Wildcats 6 Bromham 2
DANNY Powell’s long-time table-toppers Bromham have finally seen their eight-week reign at the top of the standings come to an end after they were convincingly beaten by Corsham CC Wildcats for a second time this season.
Bromham, who lost the reverse clash 10-0, suffered a 6-2 defeat at Yatton Road as they slumped to a third straight no pointer.
The Wildcats were on the prowl from the first whistle and were 4-0 ahead in no time at all, a first goal of the season from Tom Lye saw him volley home from 20 yards to give them the lead.
Tom Lye doubled his and the Wildcats lead with a simple tap in and when Dan King arrived at the back post to hit the target following a corner it was game over.
Mel King scrambled the ball in for the Wildcats fourth of a profitable first half before Sam Paget pulled a goal back for Bromham.
Bromham’s Dan Sheppard gave away the penalty that led to Dan King making it 5-1 with his second of the game.
Jim Sandiford gave Bromham some hope with their second of the game but his effort like Paget’s before it counted for nothing as Tom Lye broke clear and kept his calm as he slotted home the Wildcats sixth and his third of the game as they strolled to another win over their opponents.
Kings Arms (All Cannings) 3 Staverton FC 1
AFTER being predicted to complete a league double when they visited Kings Arms (All Cannings), Aaron Latchem’s Staverton blew their chance to top the table after a 3-1 loss to Jim Wilson’s hosts.
Things didn’t start well for the Kings Arms as they fell behind to a well-taken goal from Levi Wood. The visitors were unable to keep their noses in front as Liam Mortimer, who had been causing problems for Staverton, provided the cross that led to Leigh Wells squaring things up before half time.
Kings Arms defence were on top in the second and they repelled everything that that Staverton threw at them, and with the visitors unable to make the breakthrough it was the introduction of substitute Simon Drewitt who helped turn things in favour of Kings Arms.
The striker unselfishly set up Leigh Wells for his second to put the hosts in front for the first time.
Staverton were shocked by the goal and although they threw players forward looking for an equaliser they couldn’t find a way through what was an organised back line.
With 10 minutes remaining Kings Arms sealed their win, as another tantalising cross from Mortimer was dropped by the Staverton keeper to Drewitt who stabbed the ball home to seal a deserved win for a Kings Arms side who had Rob Hannah and Rob Jenks missing and top scorer Drewitt starting on the bench due to injury.
Goatacre CC FC 2 Somerford FC 2
SOMERFORD FC may not have got the victory they were after when they visited fellow promotion hopefuls Goatacre CC FC, but the villagers' manager Spike Chandler would have been happy that his team kept themselves in the fight for the title thanks to 2-2 draw which sees them hold onto second spot, just one point behind Prestige but with a game in hand on their rivals.
Goals from Dave Herring and Ed Wilkins put Goatacre two-up before Somerford awoke from their winter slumber and got themselves back in the game prior to the break with Chris Yeo reducing the deficit to the odd goal.
After the break both teams had chances to add to their first half tally, but it took a brilliant free kick from Somerford’s Lee Hernandez to break the second-half stalemate and in the end it proved to be an important goal for Chandler’s side as it earned them a share of the points from what was a fine game of football between two evenly-matched sides.
