THIRD Division Pig & Whistle United booked the place in the last 16 of this season’s presstoprint-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup after overturning a half-time deficit to beat first division strugglers Chippenham West End 2-1.
West End took a first-half lead through Paul Mannings, who headed home a great free kick from Craig Garner and had it not been for United’s Stuart Frith, who had an excellent game in defence the visitors to Awdry Avenue could have been out of sight at the break.
Pig & Whistle upped the tempo in the second half and got back on level terms when Ashley Fletcher’s pinpoint free kick was brilliantly headed home by Rob O’Harrow.
Fletcher then an excellent through ball for Sean Meer, who timed his run perfectly to fire home with five minutes remaining and sent United into the second round where they will play top flight Steeple Ashton for a place in the quarter-finals.
