MICK Gunning, from Trowbridge, took top honours at Sunday’s Wilts Open match at Eden Vale with 47lb 6oz of carp, writes COLIN SCULL.
Pete Neate, from Holt, was next with 42lb of skimmers, followed by Kevin Grant, from Trowbridge, with 37lb 12oz of carp.
Other placings: 4 Tim Martin, Frome 36lb 4oz; 5 Stuart White, Chippenham 30lb 10oz; 6. Paul Sims, Frome 14lb.
THE South West Winter League match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Darlington Wharf saw Preston Innovation Thatchers take team honours with 43 points followed by Maver Bathampton with 40 and Sensas Thyers with 33.
Individually, honours were shared by Andy Britt and Sean Townsend, both of Maver Bathampton, with 10lb 9oz of skimmers and roach.
Melksham’s Nathaniel Johnson, of Preston Innovation Thatchers, clinched third prize with 10lb of roach and skimmers.

THE Wessex Winter League on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Pewsey proved tough, Pewsey A taking team honours with 25 points, followed by Radcot with 23 and Pewsey B with 22.
Top individual was John Swan, of Radcot, with 4lb 1oz of roach, followed by Paul Giddings, of Swindon Isis, with 3lb 2oz of roach.
Brian Shuttler, of Pewsey, was third with 3lb of roach.
Other placings: 4 Lee Pollard, Lechlade & Clanfield 2lb 15oz; 5 Steve Bull, Swindon Isis 2lb 10oz.

SUNDAY’S Chippenham match on the Bristol Avon was won by Alex Hyde with 22lb 2oz of chub, followed by Mark Wooldridge with 13lb 8oz of roach and perch.
Steve Palmer was third with 10lb 9oz of roach.
Other placings: 4 Kevin Williams. Chippenham 8lb 5oz; 5. Nigel Smith, Calne 8lb 4oz; 6 Dave Baker, Trowbridge 7lb 8oz.
SUNDAY’S Lavington Silver fish-only match at Ellis Lake was won by Joe Sheppard from Frome with 44lb of bream and roach.
Graham Pearce, from West Lavington, took 13lb of roach and perch for second, with Tony Weeks, from Market Lavington, third with 12lb 8oz of roach and bream.
Other placings: 4 Terry Fell, Devizes 11lb 4oz; 5 Chris Brown, Worton 7lb 8oz; 6 Andy Jones, Devizes 7lb.
THIS year’s Christmas matches get under way on Sunday with the Chippen-ham match on the Bristol Avon at Chippenham.
Also taking place are the Airsprung match on the Bristol Avon at Barton Farm and the Ridgeway match on the Bristol Avon at Freshford. On Saturday, December 7, the Avon match is scheduled for the Bristol Avon at Melksham and the Golden Valley on the Bristol Avon at Keynsham.
A day later, the Lavington match takes place on Cheverell Complex and the Calne match at Hazeland.
Also on that day are the Trowbridge match on the Bristol Avon at Staverton, Bathampton Open match on the Bristol Avon at Newbridge, and Kingswood & Hanham RBL match at Wolverton.
