BRADFORD on Avon club rowers tasted success at the Avon County Rowing Club’s new Autumn Head Race last weekend.

Alex Leflaive Manley was the major star of the club, crewing with Toby Saunders (Minerva Bath) to win the IM3 double sculls in a fast 12 minutes 41 seconds, finishing seventh overall.

Steven Archer, 50, secured the fastest Masters single scull time of 13:32.5 in the Masters D single scull which saw him placed 39th overall of the 102 competing crews.

Archer also crewed with Leflaive Manley in the IM1 pair, achieving a time of 13 minutes 37.7 seconds.

Bradford’s Masters E Double sculls of John Barter and Martin Harris won their race in 13.51, finishing 30th overall.

The newly-formed WJ16 quad crew of Tamsin Brewer, Laura Moorfield, Emma Pullen and Brogan Coates, clocked 15:10.6 for second place in their category in their first race together.

The crew of the J15 quad, Alexander and Miles Taylor, Jacob Metz and Alex Linham, coxed by Avon County’s George Martin, finished in 13 :57.7 seconds for third place in the five-boat race.

Former club secretary Peggy Sipeer and partner Annemarie Leflaive Manley completed in 14:9.8 without competition, giving them a handicapped (adjusted for age) time of 14:1.8.

Brewer and club Coach Ching Kilby’s W.IM3 double sculls finished in 14:41.4, while the J16 quad crew of Billy Harman, George Moorfield, Harry Richardson and Harry Swan, coxed by Matthew Pullen, clocked 14:41.9 in their first outing.

The Masters F quad of Charles O’Neil, Mike Frost, Chris Friend and Andy Taylor, coxed by Kilby, finished in 14:45.3 for a handicapped time of 13:30.3.

Frost and O’Neil sculled the Masters F double home in 15:59.5 seconds – a handicapped 14:40.5 seconds.

Luke Duncan, racing in the J15 single scull for the first time, clocked 16:31.4.

A composite crew of Chris Blunt (Avon County), Bradford’s Arnold Hodgson and Trevor Lutkin, and Keith Trivett (Avon County) sculled in the Masters H quad in, coming home in 14:42.0 for a handicapped 12:34.0.

Club captain Andy Taylor said: “It is so good to end the year’s racing with so many junior crews and such a cross section of ages representing the club.

“The results have been superb across the board.’’
