WITH Division Two leaders Miller Sports A dropping two points from their game at Sutton Benger, Devizes-based FC Buscots thumped fellow high flying Southwick Wanderers 9-3 to make a welcome return to the top of the table.
Southwick, who had already claimed two narrow victories over their hosts, actually took the lead when Pete Spong played in Jack Parker who made it 1-0.
Instead of inspiring Southwick fired Buscots into life and they took a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Phil Little and Jake Waters.
Wanderers got themselves level when Ferris Lamrabet volleyed home a Bradley King-Taylor to make it 2-2.
After that Buscots and in particular Jake Waters made hay in the winter sunshine with the striker scoring three more first half goals to take his tally to four and Buscots to five.
Buscots may have thought that they had the game won but they were given a wake-up call when Stuart Powell played in Jack Parker to score his second of the morning for Wanderers.
But after that, normal service was resumed for the visitors and Waters added a fifth to his first-half haul. Phil Little scored twice to claim a hat-trick and a single from Charlie Collier made up Buscots winning tally.
Fortune Inn FC 7 GRFC 2
A 7-2 VICTORY for Fortune Inn at home to GRFC saw them complete a double over their local rivals who they had beaten 4-3 earlier in the season.
Danny Johnstone, Craig Archard from the penalty spot and Joe Hylands put Fortune three up before Jason Cole scored his first goal for GRFC to reduce the deficit.
A second from Joe Hylands restored Fortune’s three goal cushion prior to half time.
After the break Ryan Kubulius made it 5-1 and his second along with a second of the game for Craig Archard put Fortune 7-1 up before Mike Jenkins scored a second consolation for GRFC at the death.
Although he didn’t get on the score sheet Fortune’s manager Budge Hylands singled out youngster Ryan Jenkins for special praise as he was up against his twin brothers Matt and Mike, who were in the heart of the GRFC midfield but he had a superb game in central midfield for the winners.
Potterne CFC 5 AFC Avellinos 1
PETE Huntley’s Potterne CFC saw a welcome return to action with a 5-1 win over fellow relegation battlers AFC Avellinos, who drop to the bottom of the table after their fourth loss of the season.
Potterne, who had not played for over a month, opened the scoring through Leo Whitehead and doubled their advantage courtesy of a well-taken Ben House effort.
A second from Ben House early in the second period saw the villagers stretch their lead and although Sam Jones clawed a goal back for Avellinos before Neil Clark bagged a double to complete the Potterne win.
Sutton Benger 0 Miller Sports 0
A GOALLESS draw doesn’t happen very often on a Sunday morning but Sutton Benger and Miller Sports A are no strangers to them as their 0-0 stalemate at Stanley Park was the third time the teams have failed to score any goals when they have clashed.
The last time was back in the 2001-02 when both games between the teams finished 0-0.
