PRESTIGE Bodyworks were looking to bounce back from last week’s first defeat of the season, but came up against a resurgent White Horse (Sunday) A side that were looking to add to a run of three games unbeaten.

It therefore seemed fitting that honours in the Division One clash were shared 1-1 at Stanley Park, in what was a competitive game between two well-matched sides, thanks to two second-half strikes.

The first 45 minutes was a cagey affair, with both sides giving the other ultimate respect, and chances of any real quality were few and far between.

The visitors, however, would have gone into the interval feeling they should have been in front with huge penalty appeals turned away by referee Melvin Sullivan for what appeared a blatant foul on Pete Ayton.

The second half started in similar fashion with neither side seemingly wanting to take it by the scruff of the neck, but that soon changed as the opening goal broke the shackles.

After Horse keeper Rich Hunt had pushed a Rob Hurkett header on to the bar 10 minutes into the half, only for Adam O’Keeffe to react quickest and prod home the rebound to give Prestige hope of keeping their 100 per cent home record intact for the season.

Unlike the reverse fixture back in September though, which Prestige won 3-1, the opening goal spurred the Horse into life and they enjoyed a period of sustained pressure that eventually culminated in Paul Beavers netting the equaliser with 12 minutes left.

Both sides pushed for the three points in the closing minutes, but whilst the visitors struggled to trouble Steve Warner in the Prestige goal, Hunt and his woodwork were called upon on more than one occasion to save their team.

Bromham (Sunday) 0 Staverton FC 3

WITH Somerford missing out on a game, Danny Powell’s Bromham (Sunday) side still find themselves top of the table for another week at least despite suffering a second successive loss.

After losing to Somerford last weekend the villagers were beaten 3-0 on home soil by a rejuvenated Staverton side who played the majority of the game with 10 players having had Cameron Henley sent off on 15 minutes.

Henley saw red for a deliberate handball but from the resulting penalty, Staverton lived to fight on as keeper Kieran Ramsey kept out Freddie Paget’s spot kick after that Staverton defended really well to secure what was a deserved win.

Ashley Blake’s first ever goal for Staverton separated the teams at half time. Jason Povey who starts a four-match ban tomorrow doubled his teams lead and then hit an 18 yard stunner to make it 3-0 and remind his teammates of what they will be missing for the whole of December.

Corsham CC Wildcats 5 Kings Arms (All Cannings) 2

DAN King was on top form for Corsham CC Wildcats in their game at Yatton Road against Kings Arms (All Cannings).

Jim Wilson’s Kings Arms may have won the reverse fixture 6-2 but they were beaten 5-2 by Scott Fleming’s side who were in good form as they avenged their early loss.

King hit a 25 yard wonder free kick to give the Wildcats the lead, King then added another two goals to claim a first-half hat-trick as his team opened up a 3-0 lead.

Goals from Leigh Wells and Mikey O’Donnell who scored from the penalty spot proved worthless as a further two goals from King who struck another spectacular free kick completed the scoring for the Wildcats.

Goatacre CC FC 3 North Star A 5

GOATACRE CC FC may have been at their best a week ago when they defeated Prestige Bodyworks 5-1, but the cricketers’ came back down to earth with a bang after they were beaten 5-3 by local rivals North Star A who had lost the reserve clash last month 5-2.

Matt Lang started the ball rolling for North Star, Mark Dolman one of the Star’s new recruits made it 2-0 before Lang doubled his tally for the morning to give his team a 3-0 interval lead.

After the break it was another recent signing in Mark Smith that put the Star four-up.

Ed Wilkins pulled a goal back for Goatacre and Darren Holcombe reduced the deficit even further before Dolman brought an end to any hopes of a Goatacre fight back with his second and the Star’s fifth of the morning.

Darren Holcombe kept Goatacre in with a fighting chance but his second of the day was little more than a consolation for the clubs joint top scorer.
