SALISBURY were the latest victims of West Wilts Ladies’ perfect start to the West Clubs League East Division as the home side won 2-0 at Kingdown School on Saturday.
The home side broke the deadlock when Niki Stranks fired the ball into the D and a defender’s touch deflected it in.
In the second half Salisbury pushed hard for an equaliser, but the points were secured in the final minute when Stranks fired into the far corner.
The ladies second string earned their first win of the Wessex Division One season, 3-0 at Marlborough 2nd.
The opening goal arrived when Sally Douthwaite’s pass allowed Lisa Phillips to sweep home.
Marlborough responded, but were kept at bay by Kyra Brake, who also saved a penalty flick.
The second goal came as Lucy Diggins picked up the ball at the edge of the circle, passing a defender before slipping home.
Kirsty Stewart wrapped up the points with a fine dribble around the keeper.
West Wilts Ladies 3rd were defeated 6-0 by Wootton Bassett 2nd.
WEST Wilts men are now eight points adrift of Davis Wood League Conference North leaders City of Bath after losing 1-0 in their top-of-the-table clash last weekend.
A tight match was settled in the second half, despite a man of the match performance from Matt Kenyon.
With Matt Janes and Ben Creedy prominent, Wilts pressured the leaders in the second period, but a deflected strike in the D defeated them.
