WILTSHIRE Paralympic star Stephanie Millward admits she’s still unsure whether she will take part in next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Millward, 32, won five medals, including four golds at this year’s IPC World Championships in Montreal, Canada, earlier this year.

That followed her stunning success at the London 2012 Paralympics, where she also returned home with five medals.

Disability swimming events run at the same meet as the other aquatics disciplines at the Commonwealth Games, although a reduced programme means the Box swimmer may not be seen in the pool.

Millward won silver medals in the S9 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 50m freestyle in the Delhi Games of 2010, finishing behind long-time rival Natalie du Toit of South Africa on each occasion.

She told the Wiltshire Times: “The races at the Commonwealth Games are not so good for me.

“There is the 100m breaststroke, but that is a discipline I am not so keen on.

“It might be the case that I am able to swim up in the the S10 class and there is a 200m individual medley race there, but I haven’t really thought about it at this point.’’

Millward, who trains with the Aquae Sulis club in Bath, was named the city’s sports personality of the year and disability sports performer of the year earlier this week.

She claimed gold medals in the S9 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle, as well as team golds in the (34pt) 4x100m freestyle, 4x100m medley relays and a silver in the SM9 200m individual medley in Canada.

“I’m just amazed by the whole year really, she added. “I got married and then to go so well at the World Championships just made it the best year.’’

Despite her stellar success, Millward’s lottery funding has remained in the B category but, while disappointed, she won’t let that distract from her remaining ambitions.

“I thought that winning four golds at the World Championships might help my case, but the reasons I was given was that my times weren’t fast enough,’’ she added.

“The B category is still a good amount of funding for doing something I enjoy, but I have lots of ideas for setting up swim schools which will have to wait for another year.’’
