CLARRIE Dunbar march on in the Egham Trophy after an emphatic victory over Bristol, writes DAVE EATON.

The foundations for the excellent victory in the second round tie in the national mixed inter-club championship were laid on the away greens in Ashton Vale, Bristol.

The two quartets of Marcia Hartley, Jeanette Wheeler, Craig Doughty and skip Graham Shadwell plus Thelma Deane, Kim Smith, Dale Taylor and skip Andrew Colebrooke recorded superb 24 and 22-shot victories respectively.

This combined 46-shot advantage easily compensated for the three and nine shot reverses suffered at home at Standerwick by the two rinks skipped by Keith Bailey and Russell Francis respectively.

After beating North Wilts and Bristol in the first two rounds Dunbar now face Clevedon in round three on Sunday, December 1.

They will be looking for a repeat of last season’s 78-70 win over the Somerset side on their way to reaching the last 16 in the competition.

Clarrie had to give second best to Clevedon in the second round of the ladies Yetton Trophy, national inter-club championship, losing by 14 shots as they went down 78-64.

Clarrie ladies only managed to win on one of the four rinks and that was away in Clevedon where Jo Dunford’s quartet edged home by one shot.

The Dunbar ladies side led by four shots across the board at ten ends but were unable to hold this advantage as Clevedon surged ahead in the second half of the match to a comfortable victory.

On Sunday, the Standerwick club will be looking to progress in the mixed national Top Club championship.
