WEST Wilts maintained their fine form in Davis Wood league Conference North by romping past hosts Swansea City 8-2.
The Warminster side were expecting a tough battle, but it proved anything but as they dished out a thrashing.
Some of their hockey was sublime as they led 3-0 at half time, with fine counter-attack goals from Matt Elloway, Matt Janes and Dave King.
The hosts came out with more aggression and pressure at the start of the second half, but Wilts soaked up the pressure and went 7-0 up with goals from Janes, a short corner routine from Dan Shepard, Mark Brothers and a powerful strike from Ben Creedy.
Swansea scored twice, but Brothers rounded things off with the eighth to stay in second place.
With the West Clubs League taking a break for half term, unbeaten West Wilts Ladies travelled to Clevedon and drew 3-3 with Somerset Gryphons.
Niki Stranks opened the scoring for the visitors and Livie Evans added another to her season’s tally, but Gryphons hit back to level before half time.
A third Somerset goal left the visitors trailing in the second period, but Amanda Robson’s interception and shot restored parity.
West Wilts Ladies 2nd claimed their first win of the campaign as they defeated Shepton Mallet 2nd 4-3.
Mallet claimed two goals to seize the initiative, but Sally Douthwaite and Kirsty Stewart drew the Warminster side level.
April Baker gave them the lead and although Mallet scored again in the second half, Stewart’s second completed the win.
