FROME Town chief Brian O’Donnell is concentrating on the positives from his side’s FA Trophy exit last weekend.

The Robins finally played their twice-postponed first qualifying round replay and took the lead through Aaron Ledgister’s spectacular first-half strike.

They were denied a penalty as Brandon Mundy appeared to be tripped in the box and the hosts forced extra-time as Will Spetch fired home at the death.

Steve Devlin slotted home from the spot after Spetch was brought down in the second additional period and Michael Charles wrapped up the Poole victory before the Robins’ Matt Cowler picked up a second booking late on.

“We were denied an unquestionable penalty when Brandon was brought down but the referee makes the final decision. I was also a bit disappointed with the way that Poole put pressure on the officials,” said O’Donnell.

“Poole are a side with a big budget, who are expected to be near the top of the league by the end of the season, but I thought that we played better than we did in the original tie (a 1-1 draw on October 19).

“The lads worked hard and they’re passing the ball around a bit more, which is nice to see. There are a lot of positives for us to take.”

Frome’s clash with Truro City on Wednesday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, meaning O’Donnell has only presided over two matches since becoming boss midway through last month.

The Badgers Hill chief added: “I’ve been looking at new players since day one and we’ve come close to signing one or two but it hasn’t quite happened yet.

“But I also wanted to give all of the players that are here a chance and they’ve done well so far.”

Frome travel to Arlesey Town tomorrow before going to struggling AFC Totton next Tuesday.

Bryan Smith and Aidan Kirby are injured while midfielder Kurt Hammonds featured for Toolstation League Radstock Town last weekend as he continues his recovery from a knee problem. Cowler is also unavailable at Arlesey but Rhys Baggridge returns.

The clash with Truro has been rearranged for November 16.
