AFTER defeating Swindon League outfit Swiss Chalet Rangers in their first round match, Calne Eagles were rewarded with a home tie against fellow league side Polenez Westbury.
Eagles eased their way into the third round of the Wilts Cup with a comprehensive 4-0 win over their third division opponents.
Calne were pretty much home and dry by half time thanks to goals from Russell Driver, Jake Goodwin and a superb finish from distance by centre back Brett Cullen.
In the second half, Calne dropped their level of play and didn’t pass the ball as well. Nonetheless, their captain Stuart Windsor added to the scoreline with his eighth goal of the season.
This win saw Eagles progress into the third round of the Wilts Cup for the first since they were formed 10 years ago.
Castle Combe 0 South Newton & Wishford 2

Chisledon FC 1 Steeple Ashton 7
NEIL Taylor’s Steeple Ashton side may be struggling at the wrong end of the first division table but they saved their best performance of the season to date for their trip to Swindon League Division One side Chiselson FC who, thanks to a brilliant second half showing, they battered 7-1 to book their place in the third round draw.
Leading 1-0 at the break thanks to a Ashley Warner goal Ashton doubled their lead early in the second period courtesy of Marc Sheppard and although Chiseldon pulled a goal back to make a game of things for a short while the floodgates opened and Ashton ran riot.
Guy Rowley helped himself to a hat-trick, Marc Sheppard added his second of the game and a first goal of the season from Matthew Gittins completed the rout.
Marshfield FC 1 The Lamb FC 2
LAST term's beaten semi-finalists and runners up from 2011 The Lamb FC would have expected a safe passage through to the third round when they were drawn away at Marshfield, who are new to the league this term.
Tony Stevens' side came up trumps but their 2-1 victory was a lot closer than they would have thought it would have been and they were given a tough test of their character as they had to overturn a half time deficit to claim their win.
Lamb who are currently joint second in Division One and suffered defeat in one of their nine games to date, fell behind to Paul Hardiman’s first-half strike.
Marshfield, who will admit that they rode their luck throughout the game as Lamb hit the woodwork six times, were pegged back on 60 minutes with Ed Smith netting to tie things at one each.
With the game heading for extra time Lamb claim their win when Kieran Fereday popped up with the winner two minutes from time.
Semington Magpies 0 Freshford United 4
The all-Trowbridge League affair between first division stablemates Semington Magpies and Freshford United was won 4-0 by the latter, whose goals all came in the first half and before they had Chris Maskrey sent off.
Mark Gerrish put Freshford ahead when he scored from the penalty spot. Matt Lay doubled the visitors lead, Tom Rooney made it 3-0 and Steve Roddy made up the quartet.
Trowbridge Rangers 3 The Fleece FC 0
THE Fleece FC would have fancied their chances of making the final 16 after they were drawn against fellow Trowbridge League outfit Trowbridge Rangers who are nine places below them in the league standings.
However, things didn’t go to form as Rangers who went into the tie as underdogs claimed a 3-0 win.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, the deadlock was broken by Bradley Butcher, Cameron Thomas doubled Rangers lead before Tom Doveton wrapped up what will go down as a famous win for Paul Goddard’s third division side over their second division opponents.
Trowbridge Wanderers 1 Old Town FC 4
TROWBRIDGE Wanderers' dreams of Junior Cup glory are over for another season.
Jake Wayman's side gave it their very best shot at home to Old Town FC who turned up late at Wanderers, Lambrok Road base but once the Swindon League Premier Division leaders got their act together they managed to see off their hosts who suffered a 4-1 loss.
Old Town led 2-0 at the break and went 3-0 up before Dan Mercer slotted home a consolation for the home side who then conceded a fourth as Old Town secured their victory.
Westwood News 10 Bassett Bulldogs FC 1

The visitors to Westwood fell behind to the first of Steve Bryant’s four-goal haul of the afternoon.
A second from Bryant, and singles for Josh Maguire, Charlie Powell and Ben Cowdrey who thumped home a brilliant free kick put the hosts 5-0 up before the Bulldogs scored their consolation.
Five more goals in the second half completed the rout. Bryant completed his hat-trick before both Maguire and Powell added to their first-half efforts.
A fourth from Byant made it 9-1 before Ashley Styles netted his first and Westwood’s tenth of the game.
White Horse FC 4 Chalke Valley FC 3
WHITE Horse FC’s reward for beating DJC Marlborough in the previous round was a home meeting with Salisbury League Division one leaders Chalke Valley FC.
The hosts came through probably their hardest game of the season to date with a place in the next round but they had to work really hard to claim it as they came from 2-1 to snatch a 4-3 win.
Chalke Valley saw they lead cancelled out by an own goal but they were able to regained the lead prior to half time, however they were unable to preserve it as Matt Mead dragged White Horse level before Stuart Barber put the home team 3-2 up.
Chalke Valley kept themselves in the tie and saw parity restored at three-each and with the game heading to extra time the next goal was always going to be important and so it proved too be as a second from Mead with seven minutes remaining sealed victory for the White Horse men.
