WITH both Lamb Reserves and Drummer Boy unable to raise teams to play respective opponents Holt FC and Zeals FC, a hastily-rearranged game saw Holt run out 6-1 winners to stretch their lead at the top of the division to four points over White Horse FC.
Matthew Woodhead gave Holt the lead in what could have been a potential banana-skin to their promotion challenge and Fynn McCarthy-Driver made things a little easier for Ben Hoggs side when he planted home number two.
Ben Talbot reduced the deficit for Zeals but his effort was little more than a consolation as Bradley Goddridge restored Holt’s two goal advantage which became three before half time when Ryan Goddridge fired home to give Hogg’s side a 4-1 lead at the break.
The goals may have dried up in the second period, but with the damage already done in the first 45 minutes a second from McCarthy-Driver and fine individual effort from Tom Wade made up Holt’s half-dozen.
United FC 7 The Stiffs FC 0
UNITED FC arrived at their pitch at Clarendon Academy only to find that it hadn’t been marked out ahead of their game with local rivals The Stiffs FC.
Stiffs came to their hosts' rescue as they were able to provide a pitch marker and although the game was a little later than planned in kicking off, thanks to the efforts of both teams and match referee Neil Baker it eventually got underway.
Thanks to a 7-0 success it was United who consolidated their promotion challenge.
United opened the scoring through Shavon Allen and a Chris Giles own goal doubled their lead. Jozef Zapotolzny made it 3-0 before half time.
United started the second period ass they had ended the first, a second of the afternoon from Jozef Zapotolzny extended the hosts lead and then Shavon Allen scored his second of the game that took it to 5-0.
A second own goal this time from Marc Harewood and a third of the contest for Allen completed the scoring.
United also had two goals ruled out and although his netted a hat-trick Shavon Allen missed out on a few more as he missed a host of other chances.
MATCHES OFF: Holt FC v The Lamb Reserves, Zeals FC v Drummer Boy.
