ONE OF the ties of the second round of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup has to be the one at Penhill Recreation Ground where Swindon League Division One pace-setters AFC Gas entertain last term's beaten semi-finalists AFC Melksham.

Melksha, who have not been at the races this term, will be huge underdogs but having the knack of causing an upset.

Castle FC’s reward for their demolition of fellow league outfit GRFC in round one is a trip to AFC Amesbury Athletic, who currently top the Salisbury First Division.

Cup-holders Biddestone Social are already safely through to the next round having received a walkover after fellow Chippenham League side Trowbridge Rangers (Sunday) withdrew from the league, so the defence of the trophy that they won last April will start in earnest in December.

Fortune Inn won a nail-biter against AC Swindon to set up a meeting with Nationwide Pavilion at Stanley Park.

The Swindon League Division Four table-toppers have won all nine of their games to date so Fortune will have to conjure up something special if they are to have any chance of causing an upset for a second successive round.

Many of the Corsham Centre Youth players have tasted Sunday Cup success before, so their trip to Swindon League Division Two side Wanborough FC should hold little fear for Pete Ralph’s side.

Although they have yet to reach top gear, the Centre have won all eight of their fixtures to date, but this game will be their biggest test so far.

Second Division table-toppers FC Buscots will be hoping that they can take their league form with them when they visit Salisbury League Division One side West Tytherley.

Buscots, who defeated Cleeve Tech 4-1 in the previous round, are unbeaten in all their eight fixtures to date and if they have their full squad available, should progress to the next round.

Frome sunday league outfit FC St George accounted for Chippenham League side Talbot FC in the last round and they will fancy their chances of claiming another league scalp when they make he short trip to Westbury to face White Horse (Sunday) FC.

Clive Black’s side were at their best when they beat Marlborough Town Casuals to book their place in this round and although they haven’t been in top form so far this term, they should have enough firepower to dispose of their near neighbours.

Worton & Cheverell (Sunday), who had an impressive 4-2 win over Swindon League side Rudis FC in the previous round, have been given another home tie.

Chris Cole’s side play hosts to The Windmill (Sunday), who are also from the Swindon league, and they will have to be at their very best if they are to make further progress.
