A new day of events in Trowbridge will build on the growing popularity of triathlons.

With something aimed at all ages and abilities, Trowbridge Hot Chilli Triathlon Club wants as many people as possible to be involved.

Gary Curtis, club chairman, said: “After the Olympic success of the Brownlee brothers and some local success, including Hot Chilli Club members, at this year’s World Age Group, we are seeing more and more people giving the sport of triathlon a go and joining the Trowbridge Hot Chilli Club.”

The Big T Triathlon will take place on the a bank holiday Monday of May 5 at the pool in Trowbridge Sports Centre and Clarendon College.

The event will include a sprint distance race (400m swim/25km cycle/5km run) and the Big T Triathlon (600m swim/48km cycle/10km run).

There will also be a Little T Aquathlon, a series of junior aquathlon races for all ages.

The Big T Triathlon event format is intended to offer something for everyone, from those new to the sport who want a health or fitness challenge, to more experienced athletes looking for a quality, low cost, local race.

Anyone who thinks that a whole triathlon is beyond them can take part as part of a relay team, which means that taking part is possible whether that be with a team of work mates raising money for charity or through a group of friends getting fit.

To support those entering the event, Trowbridge Hot Chilli Tri’s coaches will be offering several free introductory courses over the cycling and running course and a masterclass in race orientation and transition.

The Trowbridge club is offering membership on a free, trial basis to provide access to regular coaching and support.

There is also the opportunity to take part in the club’s Damp Dash Winter Aquathlon Race Series with various combined swims and runs.

The first race in the series is on Sunday, November 10.

DC Leisure, Clarendon College and Tribal Triathlon have offered their full support for the event and Trowbridge Triathlon Club are looking for other local businesses and organisations to get involved by entering teams or supporting the event village.
