CALNE side Talbot FC will have breathed a massive sigh of relief on Sunday afternoon after finally breaking the stranglehold that AFC Avellinos seemed to have over them.

The visitors to Stanley Park, who were beaten 3-2 in their opening Division Two match by their hosts, avenged that loss and ended a three-match winless record at the hands of the home team thanks to a 4-2 success.

A Josh Staniforth own goal saw Talbot take the lead and a brilliant effort from Aaron Clegg that saw him double their advantage with a rasping long range effort. Ben Butterfield halved the deficit before half time.

A second from Butterfield early in the second period saw Avellino’s get themselves back on level terms and they then saw Sam Jones spot kick saved by keeper Aaron Ward.

The miss was a setback for Avellions and all their hard word was undone when Phil Strange scored his first goal for Talbot to put them 3-2 up.

Talbot wrapped up their win thanks to a third of the season from Tommy Ludford.

Fortune Inn 2 Southwick Wanderers 1

SOUTHWICK Wanderers saw their recent run of good form come to an end away at Fortune Inn who claimed a 2-1 win over Matt Rusling’s side in what was their first run out at Stanley Park this season.

Fortune lead 1-0 at the interval courtesy of a Joe Hylands goal and although Craig Sheppard equalised for Southwick with 25 minutes remaining it was Fortune who secured all three points when Richie Bolter bagged what proved to be the winner five minutes from time.

GRFC 0 FC Buscots 12

MARK Camacho’s table-topping FC Buscots side came out on top of their predicted David and Goliath battle against basement side GRFC, who started the game with 10 players and then lost Jason Cole on 25 minutes to a straight red card.

Buscots netted six in each half to claim their 12-0 win, Phil Little scoring a first-half hat-trick, Adam Bewley adding two and Jake Waters single made up the half dozen.

After the break, Little added a further two, Rob Drown struck once and Craig Townsend’s made up the dozen.

Miller Sports A 2 Sutton Benger 1

MILLER Sports A and Sutton Benger, usually the perennial relegation battlers, have both enjoy a good start to the season and when the teams met at the Beeches it was Miller who, thanks to a 2-1 win, maintained their position in the standings behind leaders FC Buscots.

Miller Sports started the brightest of the two teams and took an early lead when a Joe Murray corner was headed in by Ben Grinham to make it 1-0.

The game then swung Benger’s way and they started to dominate possession and claimed an equaliser before the break when Luke Watson broke through.

His shot was saved by the keeper the rebound fell kindly for Nathan Farrell who rammed the ball past a number of players to make it 1-1.

The second half started like the first ended with Benger having most of the ball but not creating anything of note.

There looked like only one winner but with eight minutes remaining Miller Sports hit Benger on the break and after a scramble in the area Dan Waylan turned the ball in to make 2-1.

Benger went all out attack but Miller defended well and saw the game out for another hard earned three points.
