WITH both Westbury Rangers and Biddestone Social seeing inactivity on Sunday morning, it gave Tom Perkins’ Devizes-based Castle FC side the chance to close the gap on their fellow unbeaten sides at the top S.K. Fruits Limited Chippenham & District Sunday League Premier Division table.

A 3-0 win for Perkins men at AFC Melksham saw them duly oblige and they now claim a share of second spot.

The game started well with two good footballing sides looking to get the ball down and play rather than looking to lump it long.

It was The Castle who edged into the lead when a shot from all of 25 yards from Liam Hill took a slight deflection and ended up in the back of the net after 10 minutes.

The remainder of the half was fairly even with both sides not creating a huge amount of chances however Melksham will feel a tad unlucky after wasting the best of them and this is how the sides went in at the break.

Perkins changed the team shape from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and The Castle took more of a hold of the game and dominated the possession.

Melksham still looked like they had a goal in them however it was The Castle who got themselves a two-goal cushion when the club's top scorer Adam Heath got on the scoresheet with his first league goal and made it 2-0 after good work from Jack Hopper down the left wing he was left with a simple finish at the back post.

Melksham continued to push in search of a lifeline and if it wasn't for some solid defensive work from The Castle's back four and keeper they would have had one.

It was however The Castle who wrapped things up when Jack Hopper burst past a Melksham defender and lobbed the ball over the keeper to seal the victory and keep The Castle's 100 per cent record intact.

The game was played in a good spirit by both sides and Luke Rudman kept control of the game well in the middle.

FC Colerne 2 Bradford Renegades 14

BRADFORD Renegades manager Lance Davis heaped huge praise on opponents FC Colerne who played the whole game with just nine players, but the hosts were not in a unforgiving mood as they claim a 14-2 triumph.

Renegades made the most of their two-man advantage with seven goals from Sam Jordan including five headers.

Josh Maguire grabbed a fine solo effort, Dan Price rifled home a brilliant free kick and Tom Rooney scored with a fortunate volley.

Ashley Styles netted twice, one being a sublime volley and player/manager Lance Davis came off the bench to get his name on the scoresheet with a double that made up the 14. Charlie Spirrell and Nick Chandler scored for Colerne.
