TROWBRIDGE Wanderers moved off the foot of the table after they came from behind to claim 3-3 draw at home to Bradford United.

The point for Jake Pegler’s side was their first since they beat Castle Combe on the opening day of the season and it saw them end a seven-match losing run.

Bradford got off to a flyer and were 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes. Chris Rockley rifled home from close range for 1-0 and a Theo Sing volley from a Scott Mitchell cross doubled their lead.

Bradford then switched off and it allowed Wanderers back into the contest and they had their own purple patch with Jamie Kinchly scoring a hat-trick to send his team at half time with a goal advantage.

Wanderers, who threw away a half-time lead last weekend, were determined not to do the same for a second week running, but they were unable to preserve their slender lead until the final whistle as an own goal from former Bradford player Elliott Hinton, who turned in a Mike Little cross, earned Bradford their point.

Calne Eagles 0 Westbury United Reserves 7

IN A week when the Trowbridge League is tackling the online abuse of referees and has also had to deal with numerous clubs venting their spleen about refereeing performances, this high-energy game was distinguished by fair play and respect.

Referee Derek Leppard congratulated both Calne Eagles and Westbury United on their conduct, claiming that this match was one of the most impressive he had ever officiated for sportsmanship.

Despite the emphatic final 7-0 scoreline in favour of Westbury, the difference between the two teams during the first hour of play lied in the quality of Westbury’s finishing.

Four of Westbury’s first five goals were all outstanding finishes from distance while at the other end Calne were left to rue a hatful of missed chances which would have kept them in the game.

Westbury opened the scoring after 11 minutes when the ball broke to striker Phil Hampson just on the edge of the box and the pacy striker made no mistake with a clinical finish into the bottom corner of the goal.

Calne then made their task even harder after only 15 minutes when a missed clearance on the goal line let in a tame shot from Marc Lanfear.

Although results have gone against Calne Eagles in recent league matches they have played with plenty of spirit so far this season, and despite their early setback in this match they continued to look dangerous going forward.

Russell Driver rattled the post from 10 yards out after a long throw from Jordan Winter had been flicked on. Also lightning winger Josh Eades raced clean through on goal and narrowly missed the target.

However, at other end Westbury were not being so forgiving and they further extended their lead when a Simon Dolbear screamer from 30 yards out put his side 3-0.

At the other end Calne continued to press and Stuart Windsor thought he’d scored when his shot from a tight angle crashed against the post.

Also Josh Eades once again narrowly missed the target after racing past the Westbury defence. Jake Goodwin and Sam Rogers also saw efforts saved by Westbury keeper Lewis Porter.

Shortly before half time Phil Hampson scored a second goal from outside the box to put his side 4-0 up and all but secure the points.

In the second half Calne continued to battle gamely and Russell Driver forced a good save from Lewis Porter in goal with a shot from just outside the box and midfielder Jordan Winter also fired wide from close range.

However, when Simon Dolbear fired home another unstoppable shot from 30 yards with half an hour to yet to play Calne’s performance slowly dipped away.

In the final stages Marc Lanfear added two more goals in the final stages which completed the 7-0 scoreline.

Castle Combe 1 North Bradley 4

NORTH Bradley returned to the summit after closest challengers Lamb were beaten by Freshford and they took all three points from their trip to Castle Combe and for Bradley it proved to be a red letter day for two of their debutants who opened their account for Chris Carr’s side in their 4-1 success.

Carl Davies, making his first appearance since moving from The Fleece, was brought down for the penalty that led to Bradley’s opener on 10 minutes, Dean Ranger scoring from the spot.

John Baker, in his first game for the club made it 2-0 after being set up by Darren Jones and Chris Henry also in his first outing for Bradley rolled back the years with a great finish that took it to 3-0.

Jake Dawson reduced the deficit for Combe but his goal counted for nothing as Dan Crease strode forward from defence to net the fourth goal of the game for Bradley which took their winning run to six matches.

The Lamb FC 2 Freshford United 4

LAMB FC saw their 100 per cent start to their first ever season in the top flight come to an end following a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Freshford United at their Whaddon Lane base.

Freshford had the points sawn up after 45 minutes thanks to goals from Mark Gerrish who scored twice to take his tally to nine in six games, Russell Whatley got in on the act to give the visitors a comfortable advantage at the break.

Having thought the game was won Freshford dropped down a few gears after the restart but they soon got back into their full stride one Craig Sheppard had pulled a goal back for the Lamb.

Sparked back into life by the goal, Freshford regained their three-goal lead thanks to a stunning finish from Chris Foley.

Sam McQueen marked his debut for the Lamb with their second of the game, however it was nothing more than a consolation as thanks to their dominant first half showing Freshford chalked their fourth straight win.

Warminster Town 0 Steeple Ashton 0

HAVING suffered a 1-0 loss to high flying Lamb FC last weekend, Neil Taylor took his injury-hit Steeple Ashton side to Warminster Town Reserves, Weymouth Street ground looking for another solid performance from his beleaguered side and he would have been happy with the outcome as the villagers claimed a point.

Ashton were indebted to stand-in keeper Nathan Holloway, who only pulled on the gloves 15 minutes before kick-off and it was his heroics that earned his team a share of the spoils.

It was Ashton who almost stole all three points at the death when Clive Metcalf raced clear and much to the relief of the hosts sent his effort inches over the bar.
