In the autumn rain at Bratton, Trowbridge Town Supporters Club and Crossblades played out an epic Division Three encounter that was both a credit to the league and extremely well refereed by Tim Beecham.

Crossblades were beginning to feel that lady luck would never shine on them but produced a fantastic display of grit, determination and fighting spirit to come away with a 5-4 victory.

With the dynamic duo of Tim Chilton and Tayler Worthy at the heart of the defence it enabled the five-strong Blades midfield to control the game and carve open the opposition almost at will.

It wasn't long before Ashley Bartels fired the Blades ahead with a sweet finish showing his true class.

Trowbridge stunned the Blades moments later when a very innocuous Stuart Little shot crept under Ben McGowan restoring parity.

Yet, as the rain began to fall, Roger Wiltshire fired home a trademark free kick further accentuating that he was a shrewd summer signing by Chilton.

To further compound the home team's plight, Bartels' trickery and guile was too much for the defence and prior to half time he put the blades 3-1 up and heading for victory.

Wiltshire, James Squire and Mike Booth were all immense in their running and spirit and showed captain Chilton what he has been looking for.

With the rain becoming heavier, Trowbridge came out fighting in the second half and this had the Blades on the back foot.

The home team began to play some great football and it was only through the animalistic performances of Chilton and Worthy that kept them at bay, throwing themselves at everything and marshalling the team.

It wasn't long before something had to give, and with Trowbridge scoring a second through Little the Blades heads began to drop.

Captain Tim Chilton could not believe it when moments later a deflected Dave Strickland shot crept over McGowan and brought the game to 3-3.

Trowbridge continued to thrust forward, and against the run of play, Will Wright broke free and calmly fired home and giving the Blades an advantage once more.

Great work from Ben Owers and Sam Thompson at full back was keeping the supporters’ at bay, but the Blades failed to clear a corner and Trowbridge capitalised and Little conjured up an equaliser to complete his hat-trick with just several minutes to go.

This could have flattened the Blades spirit, but with Gareth Cole on and providing fresh legs the midfield upped their game and pushed hard for a winner.

With Squire pulling the strings, Bartels once again found himself through on goal and sealed a famous victory for Crossblades with a phenomenal strike for his own three timer.

Credit to both teams for playing a fair and enjoyable game and to referee Beecham for managing the game very well.

Old Road FC 2 Wren FC 1

OLD Road claimed back-to-back victories after they came from a goal down to beat Wren FC 2-1 and move themselves into joint second place in the standings.

Simon Young saw his first-half opener for Wren cancelled out by Jake O’Keeffe before half time and after the interval, Old Road’s Andy Rose had a goal disallowed before he netted what proved to be the winner for his team.
