FRESHFORD United, who lifted the Somerset Junior Cup in 2011 when they beat Middlezoy Rovers 1-0 and then reached the semi-final stage in their attempt to defend the trophy, started their latest quest for cup glory with a difficult trip to Perry Street & District Premier Division side Misterton FC.
Despite a spirited showing from Chris Birleson’s side, their opponents claimed a 4-2 win, but they needed extra time to clinch their spot in the next round.
Freshford found themselves two goals down early on before they rallied and got themselves back in the tie just before half time when Russell Whatley rifled home following a corner.
Freshford took the game to extra time thanks to Waleed Bakali’s second half equaliser.
Misterton wasted no time in getting their noses in front as a long-range strike deflected in to put the host 3-2 up and with Freshford pushing forward they were caught on the break and with second of the game remaining Misterton added the killer fourth goal to ends the visitors' hopes of cup success for another season.
