WARMINSTER Town have parted company with manager John Phillips and assistant Robbie Simmonds just three months into the new season.

The club revealed the duo had been "relieved of their duties'' after just 14 games in charge at Weymouth Street, citing dressing room unrest as the trigger for their departure.

A club statement said: "The club acted swiftly when it was revealed that several first team players were set on leaving the club due to the system the manager was playing and the mood in the dressing room.''

Phillips, whose recruitment and use of players from outside the area over local squad members also appears to have caused disquiet, leaves with the Red and Blacks 17th in the Toolstation League First Division, following three wins from their 12 league matches.

He oversaw 14 matches in total, Town having slumped to three successive league defeats in recent weeks, culminating in a 4-0 thumping at Shepton Mallet on Tuesday.

The former Bradford Town Reserves manager was named as Warminster’s new boss in June, becoming the third different manager in as many seasons, following in the footsteps of Adam Collington and Jason Guy.

Chairman Pete Russell and Reserves manager Andrew McFerran will lead the side for tomorrow's Wiltshire Senior Cup first round tie against Wiltshire League Southbrook at Weymouth Street.
