THE CONTENDER Gym is hoping to host one of the biggest names in British boxing at their October 26 show after adding unbeaten heavyweight Hughie Fury to their fight card.

The 19-year-old, who has won all 10 of his pro bouts so far, is the cousin of former British and Commonwealth heavyweight title-holder Tyson Fury, who is set to take on former unified world cruiserweight champion and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye next year.

Also joining the bill at the Trowbridge Civic centre is south coast lightweight Alex Dilmaghani, 19, who is a regular sparring partner of Mexico’s four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

Contender Gym trainer Mark Kent is proud of the recognition that his local show is beginning to garner.

“Hughie Fury’s promoter really wants to push him through and he’s probably the busiest heavyweight out there – his promoter contacted PJ (Rowson, promoter) and it all got arranged from there,” said Kent.

“Whenever I’ve seen Hughie box, Tyson’s always been there to support him so he should turn up on the night.

“Alex is also a great fighter who’s going to be fighting at the show now and it’s great that people want to be involved.

“It’s great for our fighters like Nick (Blackwell) because Hughie is managed by Hennessey (Sports) and it’s brilliant to be able to gel with people like that.”

Trowbridge’s ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell takes on Max Maxwell for the British masters middleweight title on the Trowbridge show, alongside fellow Contender Gym fighters Dan Blackwell and Luke Martin, as well as Malmesbury’s Joe Hughes.
