UNFORTUNATELY, it was the same old story against Devon this week.

We bossed the game for a day-and-a-half but ended up losing.

We’ve spoken a lot about batting time and getting 357 from our first innings and staying out there for all but four balls was absolutely fantastic.

We had the full batting points and then, after bowling them out, we were 70 runs ahead.

But from there, we just capitulated.

There were 160 overs left and if we’d batted half of those, then we’d have been in a position to finish the game off but it didn’t happen that way and it was very frustrating.

In our second innings, there were a lot of shots that looked like one-day shots.

We’ve always been a side that likes to put bat to ball but the shot selection wasn’t good enough and we were chasing fours rather than concentrating on picking up ones and twos.

Maybe we’ve just been putting too much emphasis on batting time in the first innings and need to try to balance things out because we were just too aggressive.

We still put up a good fight with the ball and took them from 35-0 to 55-4 but there was just too much to do in the end.

Despite failing to get a result yet again, there were still a lot of positive performances.

Toby Davies hit a fantastic century and Joe Breet’s 93 was a great knock too. Steve Bullen kept really well, as he has done all season, and Tom Bowler, Tahir Afridi and Jake Roberts all bowled well too.

We know that we’ve got the quality – we’ve just got to keep going.

Away from Wiltshire, I’ve enjoyed watching the Ashes a lot.

England have been superb so far and it’s always nice to see Australia being given a good hiding.

The next test is at Old Trafford (on August 1-5) and the series is surely going to be all over after that one.

I still think that Australia won’t go down without a fight because that’s how they’re bred but England will win.
