TEENAGE archer Jade Pocock is hoping she can hit the target at international level after earning the rank of Junior Master Bowman at this month’s Junior National Championships.

The 13-year-old, from Trowbridge, achieved the country’s highest junior rank at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre, after only taking up the sport a year ago.

Recurve archer Pocock, who shoots for Bath Archers, gained her new title after finishing and eighth in the junior girls Bristol four round and 11th in the junior girls Metric four round.

She is hoping for even more good news when she attends at Archery GB talent selection camp back at Lilleshall tomorrow.

“It was really good to get the rank and I’m quite proud of it,” said the teenager, who is a pupil at John of Gaunt School.

“I’ve only been shooting for about a year and I got into it because my dad (Robin) does it for fun.

“It’s all about you and you out of it what you put in – I love it. I’m looking forward to trying out for GB this weekend and I definitely want to try and keep doing it for as long as I can.

“I watched the archery at the Olympics on TV last year and I’d love to get there one day.”

Dad Robin, who is also a member of Bath Archers, added: “One of our coaches at Bath was training to become a level two performance coach and had to go off to do a session with Lloyd Brown, who was the 2012 Olympic coach for Great Britain.

“He had to take someone with him for demonstrations and Jade went, which means she’s already had a one-on-one with the top British coach.

“She’s gone through all of the classes really quickly and she’s doing really so far.”
