WEST Wilts Diving Club’s Oscar Lippiatt and Finn Aubrey took home two bronze and two silver medals respectively from the British Gas National Age Group Diving Championships.
In the last competition of the diving calendar at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge centre, the pair took nearly half of the medals available in their age group.
Lippiatt and Aubrey secured silver in the 14-16 years boys three-metre synchro, scoring 208.74 from a five-dive list in their first synchro competition, to finish narrowly behind Thomas Graham and Scott Palmer, from Southampton Diving Academy (210.03).
It was a remarkable achievement for the pair, who train at Trowbridge Sports Centre, as the centre is unable to provide synchro training, having only one three-metre diving board.
On day two Lippiatt clinched his second medal, securing the bronze with a score of 269.35 in the boys A one-metre springboard.
Aubrey missed out on the a medal by just 0.3 points.
The duo then took to the platform event with dives from 10m, 7.5m and five metres, securing silver and bronze respectively, Aubrey with 260.15 and Lippiatt 252.90.
On the final day, Lippiatt found himself in seventh place after mistiming the take-off his reserve 2.5 somersaults with tuck.
Digging deep, he finish the meet with two exceptional dives, scoring 48.60 for his final inward 2.5 somersaults with tuck to finish in fourth spot.
Aubrey, however, completed a back 2.5 somersaults with tuck, to score 46.50 and secure the silver medal with 294.70 points from eight dives.
Southend diver Alister McCrae was awarded gold in all of the boys group events.
West Wilts head coach, Melanie Sweetman, who also had Eve MacCallum (Group B girls) and Conor Irwin (Group D boys) competing, said: “West Wilts Diving is the youngest and one of the smallest clubs in the country.
“To achieve this result in the nine years that we have been running is unbelievable.
“I am so incredibly proud of Oscar and Finn, they both deserve such a fantastic result.’’ The duo have been invited on to the ASA ASSE diving programme, opening up further training opportunities for them and the club coaches.
