HOT conditions didn’t prevent good catches at Sunday’s Airsprung Richard Stainer Memorial Open match on the Bristol Avon at Barton Farm, writes COLIN SCULL.
Top honours went to Richard Whitmarsh (Frome) with 28lb 8dm of bream, and John Fuidge from Thornbury took the runner-up spot with 28lb of bream. Dave Morrison (Trowbridge) was third with 10lb 2oz of roach and eels.
Other placings: 4 Tony Gilbert, Melksham 7lb 14oz; 5 Andy Gabb, Thornbury 6lb 4oz; 6 Mike Marsden, Westbury 5lb 5oz.
THE Bristol Avon at Melksham continued to provide good sport despite the hot conditions, Calne winning the inter-club event with 32lb 5oz, followed by Avon with 19lb 7oz and Chippenham with 6lb 15oz.
Individual honours went to Nigel Smith (Calne) with 14lb 13oz of bream.
Martin Dolman (Calne) was next with 9lb of perch and Gary Dodson completed a clean sweep for Calne with 7lb 14oz of perch.
Other placings: 4 Andy Pratten, Avon 6lb 14oz; 5 Mark Wooldridge, Chippenham 6lb 11oz; 6 Bob Ryan, Avon 6lb 3oz.
TROWBRIDGE’S Mick Martin carried off Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open match prize at Wardolph Castle with 68lb of carp.
Howard Adams (Devizes) was next with 64lb 13oz of carp, followed by Sean Rhodes (Trowbridge) with 64lb 4oz of carp.
Other placings: 4 Pete Neate, Holt 61lb 10oz; 5 Matt Skyrme, Trowbridge 43lb 6 oz; 6 Jim Butcher, Bradford 35 lb 6 oz.
A BROWN algae-affected Bristol Avon made fish hard to tempt in the Chippenham Monday evening match as Mark Wooldridge and Ian Liddell tied for top spot with just 1lb 5oz 8dm of bleak.
Mick Ash and Gary Etheridge (Devizes) tied for third spot with 1lb 2oz 8dm of bleak.
Other placings: 5 Nigel Smith Calne 1lb 8dm; 6 Kevin Williams, Chippenham 15oz 8dm.
FISH were again hard to tempt at the Calne Tuesday Evening match at Hazeland, where top spot went to Kevin Moore (Devizes) with 2lb 2oz of roach and dace.
Keith Knotman, from Calne, was next with 1lb 7oz of chub and perch, followed by James Yates, from Calne, with 1lb 5oz of chub and roach.
Other placings: 4 Martin Dolman. Calne 1lb; 5 Simon Fear, Calne 14oz; 6 Tim Carr, Calne 10oz.
