WARMINSTER’S struggles continued last weekend as they were blown away by promotion chasers Thornbury.
The Gloucestershire visitors cruised to a thumping ten-wicket victory at Sambourne Road, condemning Tom Davie’s men to their eighth defeat of the season and their fourth in a row. Warminster opted to bat first after winning the toss but were soon under pressure after losing openers Richie Underdown and skipper Davie for just 12 runs.
Nathan Bond was third to the crease and offered some resistance as he top-scored with 40, whilst Mark Coxon-Tenty added 31.
Gary Slade weighed in with 24 but Rory Cullinan’s late unbeaten knock of ten was the only other score that reached double figures as Warminster wickets fell regularly.
Thornbury’s Will Gidman was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, taking three wickets for just eight runs.
Tom Bradley claimed 3-23 whilst Richard Trotman took 2-22 as Warminster were skittled for 144 in just over 46 overs.
Thornbury then eased to victory thanks to the calm batting of Nick Willis-Stovold and Greg Stephens.
Willis-Stovold stroked his way to 71 not out whilst fellow opener Stephens supported him, hitting an unbeaten 63.
Davie’s bowlers failed to find a breakthrough as the Thornbury duo got the visitors to 146-0 in just over 31 overs.
Warminster face another tough test at home this weekend as they host league leaders Weston-super-Mare, who got back to winning ways last weekend after defeats at Chard and Taunton Deane.
Weston’s Andy Fear hit a century as Davie’s men were seen off by 91 runs when the two sides met in the reverse fixture in May.
