LAST season's beaten finalists Wiltshire began their MCCA Trophy campaign with a disappointing 91-run defeat to Norfolk at Devizes CC yesterday.
After winning the toss, the visitors decided to bat and made steady progress to score 201-9 in their 50 overs.
The mainstay of their innings was a partnership of 94 for the second wicket between James Spelman (70) and Sam Arthurton (67).
Only Trevor Ward (25) made a further real contribution with Norfolk losing four wickets with the score at 196.
For Wiltshire, Tahir Afridi took 3-19 from his 10 overs and Tom Bowler 4-40.
Wiltshire started aggressively through Jayden Levitt (54) and Ed Kilbee (16) who put on 72 for the first wicket in 10 overs, Levitt’s 50 coming off 23 balls.
After they were out, the rest of the Wiltshire batting collapsed against the two off-spinners Chris Brown (5-21) and Harry Bush (5-22) and they were all out in 26 overs for 110.
Wiltshire's next group match is against Lincolnshire away at Woodhall Spa on Sunday May 5.
