THE first round of the Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup, sponsored by presstoprint is dominated, as you would expect, by sides from the top division.

But there are a host of Premier Division sides who need to be wary on Sunday.

The pick of the bunch and a potential banana skin could well be the visit of Division Four leaders Little George to Premier Division outfit Spencer Sports.

With only four sides from the basement division still in the competition, Little George, on their current form, could well turn over their higher division opponents if they do not pay them enough respect.

Maud Heath Sports visit White Hart Combe, who knocked in ten goals last week; Westbury Rangers A face Division One leaders North Star A, who are unbeaten this year in the league; and FC Colerne, who found the net no fewer than 11 times last week, play top flight strugglers Sherston Town.

Elsewhere Kings Arms (Trowbridge), who on their day can turn on the style, could overturn Box Rovers from the top flight and high riding Division Two side Rowde against Dog and Fox Ashley will provide a tasty encounter.

The remaining Premier Division sides do not have automatic rights to progress further, but they do both have home advantage. Biddestone Social play The Ship, while Bradford News take on Biddestone White Horse and you would expect the senior sides to progress.

AFC Pilot, currently third in the Third Division, have home advantage over Semington Rovers, from Division One, who themselves are in a promotion spot.

The two sides above AFC Pilot are also involved in the cup competition, with second placed Cooper-Avon playing a real local derby against Pig and Whistle United from Division Two.

Division Three leaders The Southgate Inn play the only fixture against a team from the same division in the form of Sir Audley's Arms, who for the last two weeks have played, and beaten, the Wheatsheaf twice.

Wheatsheaf themselves take the trip to Biddestone Arms for their cup match and lowly Division Three side Chippenham United RAOB will put a bit of gloss on their season if they can get a result against British Lion OC from the division above.

Fourth Division hopefuls Churchill Arms seem to be able to win in the cup but not in the league, but even this will be tested to the maximum as they play North Bradley.

In the final bout, in-form Kingfisher will need to curb the prolific fire power of Luke Ballinger if they wish to remain in the cup as AFC Melksham will certainly hunt them down if they show any signs of weakness.

Cup holders Corsham Centre are on Wilts Sunday Cup duty in an exciting game against AFC Gas so their game against Fourth Division AFC Bell will be held over for a week.

All Cup games will be played to a finish. If scores are level after 90 minutes, extra-time will be played and if the scores remain level after that the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Premier Division

TOP play bottom in the Premier Division when leaders Winsley travel to play Trowbridge Harriers at Southwick.

The Harriers have nothing to lose and the squad has recently been improved, as have their results, so it might not all be plain sailing for Winsley. If Winsley do win they will open up a four point gap at the top of the division

Division One

TWO sides that have had a rough ride of it recently are Chippenham Police and Potterne. They meet on Sunday at police headquarters in what might be considered a local derby and one from which the police would like to pick up their first points of the season.

Despite being second bottom, Chippenham Sports and Social Club seem to be losing only by small margins which would suggest their defence is fairly solid. If they can turn this enviable quality to good then the good times may be just around the corner.

This week they travel to Foresters Arms, who are also fairly mean at the back, and with Steve Peglar on fire the Social Club may have something to think about.

Coming into this fixture on the back of two defeats Hullavington must be hoping to put Atworth United on the back foot and come away with both points. Only problem for them is that Atworth have been working harder and despite last week's heavy defeat their results have been improving.

Division Two

AFTER their first win of the campaign last weekend, The Horse and Groom must feel fairly confident of repeating the success against a Southwick Sports side that since narrowly going out of the cup have failed to record a victory.

In their subsequent games they have lost narrowly to leaders AFC Calne and at home to Crown Devizes.

Those two sides meet this Sunday with everything to play for. The Calne side could extend their lead at the top but equally The Crown come into the fixture buoyant after a run of good results.

At the lower end of the division basement team White Horse will be keen to move away from this ominous position as soon as possible, but FC Bradford picked up their first point for a while and could come away with something again.

Division Three

SCOTT Hattan has been on target in his last two games for Somerford ,which is good news for the village side in the absence of top scorer Chris Yeo who is sidelined through injury.

This week they take on Blue Circle (Sunday) who have slipped a few places in the table and will want to get things back on track.

Westbury Rangers B have not been particularly hot in front of goal over the past few Sundays so target practice may well be the order of the day prior to their game with Pack Horse Rangers at Meadow Lane.

Division Four

WITH the top four all involved in the cup or without a game, fifth placed Wanderers can make up valuable ground on the pace setters provided they can come away from The Rising Sun with both points.

The Crown FC will be optimistic that they can continue their winning form when they travel to Corsham United, particularly with the run of goal scoring form Dean Potter is in.

After last week's fine performance in the Wilts Sunday Cup, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club will be hoping that they can take encouragement, albeit from defeat, and improve their league form against Chippenham West End Club.

West End themselves will want to use the game as a springboard and get back to winning ways as they have been narrowly beaten on their last two outings.

Old Road Tavern have been without a game for two weeks but return this week and face North Star B. This could be the right sort of game for them to ease themselves back in as the Star have been inconsistent recently.
