LES PHILLIPS CUP
Westbury United 3, Ilfracombe Town 1
PAUL Edwards discovered the recipe for success after swapping his work apron for the green and white hoops of Westbury.
The battering-ram striker left his job at Yummies sandwich bar in Trowbridge at 2pm to boost the Westbury bench ahead of this Les Phillips Cup clash.
And just hours after using his bread knife to feed the masses, Edwards stuck the knife into Ilfracombe with a brace to seal a memorable cup comeback.
His work means Edwards is only available for home games and short away trips, but the fiery forward is determined to make an impact when he can.
He said: "The shop has only been open as Yummies since August, so we're still trying to attract new customers.
"I would rather not work on Saturday but it's the busiest day of the week for us.
"Until I can get the shop fully staffed I will have to work the hours myself.
"It would be nice to have a run in the first team at Westbury and to play every week, but for the moment that may have to wait."
Westbury boss Paul Brickley says he has no problem using the sandwich man as a filler for his first team squad.
Brickley said: "Paul showed some nice touches when he came on and his goals sealed the comeback for us.
"He's been doing well in the reserves where the manager tells me he's a cut above anything else in the Wiltshire League.
"He's available for the next three weeks now and I won't hesitate to call on him again."
A mistake from goalkeeper Nick Evans gifted Ilfracombe striker Leon Taswell an early sight of goal and the striker made no mistake to put the visitors in front.
Brickley switched to a 3-4-3 after the interval and the move paid dividends for the home side.
Nathan Hallett brought the hosts level with a neat finish from Tom Staddon's cross.
Edwards bundled home Westbury's second after 86 minutes and sealed the win in stoppage time when he rounded Steve Oliver in the Ilfracombe goal.
