WESSEX LEAGUE
Warminster Town 4, Petersfield Town 2
PETER Russell believes a new, less strenuous warm-up could hold the key to Warminster's continued success.
The Weymouth Street boss cut his players some slack before kick-off and they repaid him in full with two goals in the opening 15 minutes.
Said Russell: "We normally start slowly but on Saturday we started the game like a train. Perhaps I'll have to keep the warm-up gentle in future."
Tom Clifford fired the hosts in front when he latched onto a Greg Lewis through-ball after 12 minutes to score from close range.
Tom Welch added a second with a superbly timed half-volley on the run. Petersfield pulled a goal back before the break to keep Warminster honest.
The action was end-to-end in the second half as both sides threatened to score again.
Warminster gave themselves some breathing space when Dave Watkins smashed home a penalty with eight minutes remaining.
Petersfield hit back immediately before Welch sealed the points with a crisp finish following a one-two with Watkins.
