The UK's favourite architectural show - Grand Designs is officially back on TV screens as Kevin McCloud travels around the UK meeting new ambitious individuals building their dream homes.

The show, on Channel 4, recently marked its 25th anniversary and aired a special Grand Designs episode to look back at some of its most iconic and challenging builds.

So far, the new series has seen a mixed bag of builds including one that nearly never was and another hailed as the best episode of Grand Designs ever.

The first week saw Zahid and Frezana turn an obsolete coastguard station into their dream home all while facing planning permission troubles.

They were followed by couple Zara and Giuliano, who created the 400-square-metre malthouse-inspired home of their dreams in Lincolnshire Wolds.

Next was Kara and Jonny making a stone and zinc home that was completely accessible for wheelchair users to help Kara after a recent paralysis.

Ara and Tony were next on Grand Designs, building a home focused on health and well-being in a woodland clearing.

Last week saw Adam and Tassy buy an abandoned water tower, with plans to create a 20-meter-high family fun concrete home that the couple is still working hard on.

This week will see Kevin revisit the first-ever Grand Designs to mark the show's 25th anniversary.

Grand Designs revisits first ever build in 25th anniversary special

In 1999, Kevin McCloud visited his first-ever Grand Designs built on the East Sussex coast in the town of Newhaven.

Paragliding school owners Tim and Jules wanted to build their perfect family home on the cliffs all in three months to work with Jule’s pregnancy due date.

Kevin last visited the Grand Designs project when their child, Tiger, was born and the house was barely finished.

Now, 25 years later, Kevin returns to the Newhaven home to see how life has treated the Grand Designs family and how their (hopefully) completed home is getting along.

In a preview for the anniversary show, a younger excited Kevin shows the couple's progress during the build that is being met with obstacles.

Cutting to now, an older Kevin shares: “Twenty-five years later, I’m back. Can’t wait to see it.”

Grand Designs airs at 9pm on Channel 4 and All 4 every Wednesday.
