JOBS at the Argos Extra store in Trowbridge could be lost after its owner J Sainsbury’s announced that it is to close later this year.
The store on Bythesea Road opposite Asda is to shut and its operations will be moved to the town’s Sainsbury’s superstore in British Row.
An Argos spokesperson said: “Later this year a brand new Argos store will open inside our Sainsbury’s Trowbridge store.
“By bringing together the much-loved brands of Sainsbury’s and Argos under the one roof, our customers will be able to enjoy greater convenience as the new Argos will enable them to purchase thousands of technology, home and toy products whilst picking up their groceries.
“As a result of this change our Trowbridge Argos store will be closing later this year and colleagues will be offered the opportunity to redeploy to alternative roles within Sainsbury’s where possible.”
Simon Roberts, the Sainsbury’s chief executive, announced last year that thousands of roles across the country are to be axed as 420 Argos standalone outlets close.
The supermarket giant plans to open 150 outlets inside Sainsbury's shops by March 2024.
It also has plans to add 150-200 Argos 'collection points' inside its existing chain of supermarkets.
