AN ECO-FRIENDLY supermarket is celebrating its six-month anniversary with an event promoting sustainable living and fair trade.
A host of stands, talks, exhibitions, demonstrations and much more will be on display at Who Cares? on the Avonside Enterprise Park in Melksham on November 4.
Who Cares runs from 10am-6pm and features speakers including a representative from Friends of the Earth and Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, the Conservative Party's parliamentary candidate for Chippenham.
Mr Emmanuel-Jones, who is known as the Black Farmer, will speak about his life in farming and how he feels agriculture should return to its more sustainable roots and become less intensive.
More than 30 stands have been booked, from organisations such as Wiltshire Wood Recycling, Yatesbury Organic Farm and Melksham's Climate Friendly Community Group.
Many aim to show how people can use ethical, healthy and cruelty free products, and enable them to see what is available locally.
Christine Giles, who runs Who Cares? said: "It has taken some organising and I've been on my computer for about five hours every night for the last month when the kids have gone to bed to try and get everything sorted.
"The idea for this event is to celebrate being open for six months, get people together to show them what's on offer and to do some community building and celebrate that there is lots going on.
"We also hope to get people to make a pledge to do their part to make a difference, by doing things such as switching to energy-efficient bulbs."
A large room in the store will host the talks and some of the stands, while there will also be demonstrations and other activities outside. As well as food and environmental stands, organisations such as Corsham Buddhist Group and Inspiration Holistic Centre will also be on hand to help people learn about coping with the stresses of modern life.
Mrs Giles said: "People come to our shop from places like Swindon, Bristol and all over, and we have been handing out leaflets to everyone that has come in so hopefully plenty of people will turn up on the day."
