EXPLORING The Art of Sound is on the agenda at the Wiltshire Music Centre on Wednesday, when John Law on piano, Sam Burgess on double bass and Asaf Sirkis on drums will be playing John's beautiful, haunting compositions.
The trio's aim is to become one of the UK's foremost listening groups: listening to each other, to the sound that they produce, individually and collectively, and to the acoustics of the environment they are playing in. Balance, poise and a sense of beauty are what the trio tries to achieve, as well as a sense of drama and excitement, jazz drive and rhythm with a classical feel for nuance.
John Law has variously been described as "a hidden treasure of the UK jazz scene" and "an interesting and highly gifted maverick musician".
Tickets for the concert at the Music Centre, on Ashley Rd. Bradford on Avon, are £14 (concessions available) from the box office on (01225) 860100.
THE newly formed Bath University Choral Society is calling for local singers to join them for a community-wide Vivaldi singing extravaganza on November 11 and 12. The Vivaldi Gloria Scratch Weekend will take place at Kingswood Theatre in Bath and is open to all aged 16 plus.
Jo Sercombe, head of music at ICIA, University of Bath, said: "We're launching our new choir off with a flying start! We're going to rehearse and perform Vivaldi's Gloria from scratch, in just one weekend. It's going to be a hectic but fun-packed rehearsal schedule culminating in a spectacular finale performance."
This is a unique project that brings together members of the community, a university society, university music students and a local school.
The Weekend Workshop fee is £10, £6 students and concs.
Anyone interested should contact ICIA on (01225) 386777, or email ICIAinfo@bath.ac.uk or visit www.bath.ac.uk/icia
