THIS half term children of all ages are invited to the American Museum at Claverton Manor to follow in the footsteps of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in their search for the Northwest Passage 200 years ago - and they can complete a trail sheet and hand it in for the chance to win a prize.

Head gardener Simon Woollen explained: "The Lewis and Clark trail is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in the grounds. Since the trail's inception a few years ago, we have been looking forward to commemorating the 200th anniversary of the expedition's return to civilisation. We're hoping loads of people will come and follow in the footsteps of American history's most famous explorers."

The trail is open from noon-5pm tomorrow and on Sunday, and the cost is included in the normal museum opening charge.

Explorers might also like to tackle the Scary Family Trail at nearby Prior Park Landscape Gardens in Bath, which is open tomorrow, on Sunday and Monday from 11am-3.30pm.

Pumpkin lanterns, spiders, ghosts and bats have moved into the woodland for Hallowe'en - see how many you can spot and find out about magical and mythical characters as you go. The trail costs £1.50 to tackle, after you have paid the usual admission to the gardens, with a ghoulish goodie bag on offer for completed sheets.

Warming drinks and tasty snacks for the terrified are on sale at the Gardens' new tea hut, open from 11.30am-4.30pm.

If you want to admire some craft work and perhaps do some early Christmas shopping, then head for Warminster Assembly Rooms tomorrow for the 10th annual Autumn Craft Fair, where craftworkers from all over the south and west will be exhibiting their goods. Glass jewellery, fretwork, embroidery, books, sweeties and lots of other delights are on offer. Refreshments will be available throughout the fair which will be open from 9.30am-5pm.
