OLD police uniforms and equipment were on show at the weekend to mark 175 years since the formation of the Special Constabulary.
Modern and traditional policing equipment was on display at Emery Gate shopping centre, Chippenham, while outside The Shires shopping centre, Trowbridge there were two old police cars attended by special constables in old and current uniforms.
In the afternoon one of the old police cars moved to Lacock, to give people in the north Wiltshire village, as well as Chippenham and Trowbridge, the opportunity to find out more about the Specials.
Special constables are volunteers who support full-time officers in their communities, and the focus of Saturday's events was to raise awareness of their work.
Graham Hurst, special's administrator for C division, covering north and west Wiltshire said: "The day was primarily to inform people about what we have been doing for the past 175 years and we were very pleased with the response.
"It was not intended to be a recruitment drive, but in Chippenham alone we have already had six people asking for further information about joining.
