A GROUP aiming to make Bradford on Avon more climate-friendly will be officially launched on Sunday.

Visitors to the event in St Margaret's Hall, which starts at 10am, will have the chance to express their views on climate change and challenge politicians who will be debating the issue.

There are representatives from the three major parties, including West Wilts MP Dr Andrew Murrison from the Conservatives, Duncan Hames, the Liberal Democrat candidate for the new Chippenham constituency and Glyn Ford, Labour MEP for the South West.

Councillors will also be debating and there will be a variety of information stalls and games where people can put forward ideas to reduce carbon emissions in the town.

Students from St Laurence School will be attending the event and will perform a drama about climate change at 10.30am, before the debate begins.

The Climate Friendly Bradford Group has been set up under the countywide Wiltshire Wildlife Trust scheme and aims to increase awareness of the threats of climate change and help people in the town reduce their carbon emissions.

Group member Rowena Quantrill said: "It is important to hear what the politicians have to say and to see that we can all work together.

"Too often people feel it is not worth trying to modify their behaviour and live in a more sustainable way as just one person can't make a difference', or what is the point if the politicians aren't doing much.' "Politicians too can find it easier to make politically sensitive decisions if they can see that enough people feel it is important."
