THE Oxfam group in Bradford on Avon helped set a world record on Sunday when more than 23 million people stood up to fight against poverty.
For one hour, the group gathered in Westbury Gardens with a 150-metre white band which they unfurled with the help of visitors and passers-by.
Meanwhile people across the world were doing the same thing in the United Nations Millennium Campaign's record attempt for the most people to stand up against poverty in 24 hours.
Group member Judith Hammond said: "It was terrific. People were happy to come and hold a piece of the band for five minutes and it felt great, as if we were part of something good.
"We wanted to make sure everyone is aware that poverty is still with us and let governments know there are 23 million people behind the campaign. We need to make sure it's kept in the public eye."
