ACHIEVERS in Bradford on Avon were commended on Friday at the annual Town Gathering.

The Town Council organises the event and vice chairman Philip Sutton gave the speech and handed out the awards.

This year's winner of the Town Achievement Award, presented to an unsung hero who has given outstanding service to the community, was Gerald Milward-Oliver.

He has continually worked hard to bring and keep together the developer of the Kingston Mills site and the community.

He was nominated by Preservation Trust chairman David Moss, who said Mr Milward Oliver had "helped ensure mutual understanding as the developer prepared their plans for the site."

David Cheshire was given the Minna Gillham Young Sports Person Award, in recognition for his contribution to the Nursery Group of Bradford on Avon Football Club.

Comments made about him included: "David is truly a great role model to children of all ages" and "for a teenage lad to voluntarily get up ready to start training these young children at 9am every Saturday morning shows a lot of commitment and dedication on his part."

The winner of the Past and Future Award, given in recognition of work to a building in the town which improves the street scene, was Maplegrove Homes, for its work in improving the Old Fire Station, in Church Street.
