A JEALOUS ex-boyfriend has been jailed for eight months after he launched two attacks on his former partner.

Todd McEntaggart, 23, of Spa Road, Melksham, punched Kylie Taylor after they rowed, just days after he assaulted her in the street.

The two attacks took place a few weeks after magistrates ordered he go on a domestic violence course.

Richard Shepherd, prosecuting, said McEntaggart and Miss Taylor had been in a relationship for about three years before breaking up earlier this year.

He told Swindon Crown Court on Friday it had been a volatile relationship but the couple got back together for a short while in the summer.

On August 22 he said McEntaggart went to Miss Taylor's house and an argument started about the past.

She asked him to leave but shortly afterwards he confronted her in the street calling her a slag' and saying she had ruined his life.

As she went to phone her mum he grabbed at her wrists and snatched the mobile from her.

A week later he called her and asked if he could come over to talk things through with her' and see his son.

Miss Taylor agreed and he came to stay. "He started asking what had happened during the separation. He became angry and an argument began," he said.

"He went on about the past, both were shouting and the defendant punched the complainant to the head."

McEntaggart pleaded guilty to common assault and actual bodily harm.

Before the assaults he had been put on a three-year probation order with a condition he goes on a domestic violence course.

Andrew Houston, defending, said his client had done well on the course though it had not had a chance to get going properly.

He said he admitted that he had hit Miss Taylor on other occasions.

Judge Tom Longbotham said: "This court will not countenance hitting your partner. If anything it's an aggravating factor, one that makes it worse. Violence solves nothing."
