POLICE are looking for a hit-and-run driver who smashed into the side of a car in Trowbridge.

Nick Buckland, 35, and his partner's son Karl, 14, were in their Vauxhall Cavalier when a black Audi careered into them on the roundabout at the top of County Way, leading onto Bradley Road, at 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr Buckland's car was spun into the pavement, and the driver of the Audi pulled into Yeoman Way before running off and abandoning the car.

Police told the family they believed the Audi was travelling between 50 and 60mph at the moment of impact. It is understood the car, which had recently been bought at auction, had not been registered in its new owner's name.

Mr Buckland suffered whiplash and a knee injury, while Karl had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Both are suffering flashbacks.

Mr Buckland's partner Teresa Cooper, 32, of Woolpack Meadows, Trowbridge, said: "The brunt of the impact was taken by the pillar on the driver's side. "If our baby had been in the car it doesn't even bear thinking about. It's disgusting how they could just leave the scene like that."

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the driver should call Trowbridge police on 0845 4087000.
