ACTING Inspector Ray Lewis has been in the police force for 13 years. The 32-year-old grew up in Southampton but moved to Wiltshire when he joined the force in Salisbury in 1993.

He has worked as a detective and a uniformed officer and was promoted to sergeant two years ago when he joined the team at Warminster. He lives in Salisbury with his wife and two children and in his spare time he likes to spend time with his family.

What do you like most about living in Wiltshire?

The countryside, the people and the fact it is so safe.

Where would you recommend for a good evening out and why?

Salisbury is a good night out because there are some nice restaurants and you can always have a nice walk back through the park with the cathedral lit up behind you.

Who would be your ideal dinner partner and why?

Stephen Fry always seems very interesting. He is incredibly intelligent and really funny.

Which local landmark or attraction would you recommend? Salisbury Cathedral or Longleat. The cathedral because it is just an amazing building considering when it was built and it is so imposing and dramatic.

Longleat because it's a fabulous place for the kids, very professionally run and the staff are brilliant.

What is your favourite book and why?

I don't read a lot now apart from Mr Men books, sometimes to the children and sometimes for educational purposes.

What is your favourite music and why?

I like most sorts of music but I'm a really big Oasis fan. I loved the Britpop thing but I also like dance, pop and rock music.

How do you relax?

A glass of wine or spending time with the kids.

What keeps you awake at night?

I'm a really heavy sleeper and don't wake too much in the night. I try to keep work at work and home at home and that helps. Some of the things I have to deal with in work aren't particularly nice things that would easily keep me awake if I didn't keep it in work.

If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you take?

My iPod, my guitar and an endless bottle of red wine.
