WHATEVER your musical tastes, there is something going on on the west Wiltshire music scene to suit you over the next week.

Kicking off on Saturday night (Oct 21) at The Mount Pleasant Social Club in Bradford of Avon, there is the chance to hear duo Steve Loudon and Paul Hartshorn perform together.

Both former members of The Skeeters, the pair have gone on to play with other groups but enjoy getting back together for an evening of country rock, blues, soul and reggae - listen out for a couple of Skeeters standards!

Paul Hartshorn is back on stage the following Saturday, October 28, when he joins the Laundry Yard Scrub Big Band to appear at The Arc Theatre, Trowbridge.

The band specialise in American music, encompassing skiffle treatments of traditional gospels, blues, country and fold standards. This style of music has recently received a huge popular boost with the release of Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions album and tour.

The usual line-up of Alan Briars (guitar, vocals), Tony Goldsmith (piano), Kevan Hall (guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica), Paul Hartshorn (guitar) and Paul Bloomfield (tea chest bass) will be in concert from 8pm. Tickets, £10, are available from the Arc box office on (01225) 756376.

If you like opera music but can't stand opera culture, catch The OperaBabes on Sunday at Bath Theatre Royal. After humble beginnings busking in Covent Garden to support their singing lessons, Rebecca Knight and Karen England, pictured bottom right, were discovered by a talent scout who was so impressed he invited them to perform at the 2001 FA Cup Final. Their performance of Abide with Me was televised to 500 million people and they went on to record ITV's World Cup theme tune. Their first album Beyond Imagination went straight to number one in the classical charts, where it stayed for 11 weeks, selling a million copies. It was subsequently released across the world and hit the top of the US Billboard charts. Their second album Renaissance is a stunning and liberating collection of well known classical and popular songs.

Jazz fans won't want to miss Abram Wilson and The Delta Blues Project's Ride!, also on Sunday in Bath, the latest album from the man considered to be the most exciting trumpeter to hit the UK scene in a long time.

Ride! received its world premiere at the Cheltenham International Jazz Festival in April and features an explosive 10-piece line-up of three bands in one: Delta Blues Trio, Londorleans Brass Band (a traditional New Orleans brass band), and the Abram Wilson Sextet.
