A DAY at the races with a difference is promised at Wincanton Racecourse this weekend.

As well as the excitement of six races throughout the day there will be entertainment for all the family at the course's annual charity day.

Racecourse manager Steven Clarke said: "We have so much going on for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are a racing fan or a newcomer to the sport, the atmosphere is always electric and two very deserving charities will be able to benefit. This year funds raised will be split between the Spinal Injuries Association and St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil.

Youngsters will be able to enjoy a bouncy castle as well as have their faces painted. There will be a caricaturist, silent auction sidesaddle display, numerous trade stands and a jazz band to help the day go with a swing.

The feature race is the Fieldspring Desert Orchid Chase, with a prize fund of £35,000, and there will be five other races, including the Charity Flat Race.
