A CHIPPENHAM school has secured £4.5m to pay for an extension to house its sixth form.

Trish Shubrook, headteacher at Abbeyfield School, in Stanley Lane, announced yesterday the money from the Learning and Skills Council would provide IT facilities, classrooms and training rooms.

In addition the two-storey extension to the existing building will offer space for seminars, conferences, meetings and exhibitions.

Mrs Shubrook said: "This is fantastic news for everyone connected with the school.

"It has been a lot of work for us, including the governors, but it has been worth it, we are delighted."

Plans are available to view at the school.

Work is expected to start before Christmas and be completed in time for the new intake of sixth formers next September.
