A Channel 4 documentary team is to follow would-be Chippenham MP Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones over the next year.

The man known as the Black Farmer is trying to establish himself with residents as the parliamentary candidate of choice for the new Chippenham ward, which will come into effect at the next general election following boundary changes.

The 59-year-old father-of-two is the subject of a documentary called The Black Candidate, to be shown on Channel 4 after the elections, whether he is successful or not.

A production company will be tailing him on visits to the town as he searches for the best place to buy a house and meets local people on the campaign trail.

He said: "The documentary will still go out even if I do not get the seat. Chippenham needs to be fought for and I am aware that I must prove my worth.

"People will get to see me for real rather than as a smooth politician."

Mr Emmanuel-Jones, who runs a farm in Devon, was selected by the Conservative Party to join an A-list of parliamentary candidates in a bid to bring fresh appeal to the party.
